Why the numbers matter
A four minute music video at 23.976 fps holds about 5,750 frames. Dumping all of them is easy; finding the 40 that are sharp, flattering, and on beat is the real work. That is the gap between grabbing frames and delivering stills.
Fractional rates like 23.976 and 29.97 run slightly slower than their whole number timebase, so timecode and real time drift apart over long clips. Drop frame timecode corrects that drift for 29.97 and 59.94; this calculator uses non drop frame counting.
